POEM OF THE DAY

The Moviegoer

Of all the seats you could have taken
in this ample, ponderous space,
all empty,
all available,
you chose the spot right next to me.
I was desperate for solitude today,
a dark, quiet space
to stretch my legs
or pile them up beneath me.
Did you sense that?
I sit here now, dazed, cataleptic,
weighted to the chair, hypaethral
feet flat on the cold cement,
the cold penetrating my soles.
I am aware of every breath you take.
I sit point-blank,
quietly munching my M&Ms
so as not to disturb you
in any way.
